Religious Education

As a Sandwell school, we follow the Sandwell agreed syllabus for Religious Education.

Religious Education is an essential component of a broad and balanced education, and is a focal point in the curriculum for work on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development and British Values. It enables the growth of religious literacy, essential for life in modern Britain and the wider world and is very inclusive for all. Therefore, every pupil on  roll in our school  has a legal entitlement to R.E, normally provided to every year group in weekly lessons.

Parental rights to withdraw was first granted in 1944 when R.E was called 'Religious Instruction'. R.E is very different now and explores a range of religions, religious views and non-religious world views, allowing children to reflect and develop their personal knowledge.

If parents  wish to withdraw their child from religious education lessons, it is their responsibility to arrange a meeting with the headteacher to discuss the reasons for this and how they will be providing their own R.E curriculum for their child.

The school will not support selective withdrawal from Religious Education.
